I don’t love as hard as I did then and it took me a while to realize that’s okay. Before I realized this, I had a 2+ year on/off relationship that dragged out longer than it should have. I always unfairly compared the heavy, teenage, soul-defining Local Celebrity love I had with my new relationship, and no matter how hard I tried it could never live up to those expectations. We kept breaking up and getting back together. I felt a rush from the little victories of getting back together, the proof that I was still desired by someone. I liked the validation I got from being a ghost that haunted my ex.
